THE COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) has moved the submission and opening of bids for the public auction of over 81,000 precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines to August 23 from its earlier schedule set on Tuesday.
In a notice released on Wednesday, Thaddeus Hernan, chairperson of the Administrative Service Department of the Comelec Disposal Committee, said the activities have been moved to a later date due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila.
The submission of bids will be at 9 a.m. on August 23 to be followed by the opening of the bids at 10 a.m.
“Due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the entire National Capital Region, please be advised that the submission and opening of bid tenders for the August 10, 2021 public auction of PCOS Machines is hereby rescheduled to August 23, 2021, 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, through online using MS (Microsoft) Teams,” the notice said.
A total of 81,775 PCOS machines are up for public auction in the amount of PHP187,572,496 or PHP2,293 per unit.
The viewing of the disposal item was from July 26 to August 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Comelec warehouse, Km. 44, Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa Road, Barangay Pulong Sta. Cruz, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.
The bidders were earlier given until August 10 to submit sealed bids at the Comelec Session Hall, 8F Palacio del Gobernador Building, Intramuros, Manila.
The PCOS machines or Optical Mark Reader (OMR) systems were last used in the 2013 midterm polls.
It was replaced by vote-counting machines (VCMs) which were first utilized in the 2016 national and local elections. ( Ferdinand Patinio)
