Good job soldiers!

MAYOR BENG Climaco lauded the members of the 74th Infantry Battalion for intercepting a truckload of cigarettes which were believed to have been smuggled into Zamboanga City.

Philippine Army photos show the truck loaded with suspected smuggled cigarettes.

Climaco, citing a report from the Joint Task Force-Zamboanga, said the soldiers from the Charlie Company who were manning a checkpoint in Barangay Divisoria, flagged down the truck for inspection and discovered 439 boxes of cigarettes.

She said the army immediately coordinated with the police and turned over the seized cigarettes to the custody of the Bureau of Customs. The report did not identify the owner of the cigarettes or where it came from and not even the driver of the truck.

“We commend the authorities for their unrelenting commitment in the campaign against smuggling, in support of President Duterte's war against all forms of illegal activities, specifically smuggling.

Security forces have in the past seized tens of millions of pesos worth 0f smuggled cigarettes and rice here. Climaco has repeatedly threatened smugglers to stop their nefarious activities or face criminal charges. (Zamboanga Post)
