Rookie metro cops told to play role vs. crime, terrorism

ROOKIE POLICE  recruits are called to take a more active role in the fight against criminality, corruption, terrorism and illegal drugs.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., administered on Wednesday the mass oath-taking of the 709 new police recruits at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

In his speech, Danao congratulated the recruits for being the chosen few, saying becoming a policeman includes struggles and must value their service and be responsible men in uniform.

"The future and the result of this training solely depend on your shoulder. Kaya huwag ninyong sasayangin (So don't waste it). Learn how to adjust properly inside," he said.

The recruits passed the tough screening of the NCRPO's recruitment program, which includes a series of physical exercises, medical and neuropsychiatric exams.

"I hope pagdating ng araw, you will all be members of ERA na ating tinatawag. Panahon ng tunay na pagbabago na kinakailangan ng ating organisasyon (It is a time of change that our organization needs). When I say ERA, always be an Example, Responsible, and Accountable police officers. In so doing, you would always be giving Serbisyong TAMA: TApat, may tapang at MAlasakit sa Sambayanang Pilipino,” he added.

The new police officers will undergo public safety basic recruit course training for six months.

Another six months will be spent on field training as exposure to police science, combat and tactics, operations and traffic procedures, among others. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
