ECOP to start inoculation under 1M Jobs Project

THE EMPLOYERS  Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) will start the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination for its member workers on Wednesday.

In a statement Monday, the ECOP said the vaccination rollout is part of the “Reform. Rebound. Recover: 1M Jobs (1MJ) Project” that aims to create 1 million new jobs by end of the year despite the pandemic.

The 1MJ Project is in partnership with the government’s National Employment Recovery Strategy (NERS) Task Force and other industry players.

Aside from creating new jobs, the private sector has vowed to help the government in the vaccination program by inoculating its own employees.

“Workers in the manufacturing and construction sectors in NCR (National Capital Region) are first in the lineup. Discussions with other industry associations are underway for the planned rollout in their respective sectors,” it said.

The ECOP said the first dose of vaccines will also be given for workers in the same sectors in Regions 3, 4A, and 7.

It added the private sector will ramp up its vaccine procurement for existing and prospective workers.

Covid-19 vaccines are currently not for commercial distribution.

The private sector secured vaccines through tripartite agreement with the government and vaccine manufacturers.

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion earlier said the tripartite agreements allowed the private sector to procure some 24 million doses of Covid-19 jabs -- 17 million of AstraZeneca vaccine and 7 million Moderna vaccine -- for their employees. ( Kris Crismundo)
