Hunt on vs. cohorts of gun syndicate members nabbed in QC

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday ordered a manhunt for the cohorts of the members of a notorious gunrunning syndicate who were arrested in Quezon City.

Citing a report from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Eleazar identified the suspects as Luis Espenilla Anabi, 40, the leader of the "Espenilla gunrunning syndicate", and his cohorts, Rona CastaƱeda, 38, and Edmundo Salido, 45.

The three were arrested in an entrapment at the parking area of a fast-food chain in Barangay Pasong Putik Proper, Novaliches at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Mahalagang matukoy ng mga imbestigador ng NCRPO kung sino ang mga parokyano nitong sindikato at kung saan nanggagaling ang mga baril na kanilang ibinebenta (It is important for NCRPO investigators to know who are the clients of this syndicate and the source of the guns that they sell),” he said in a statement.

Recovered from the suspects were a shotgun rifle with magazine, two M4 rifles with magazine, various kinds of ammunition, three mobile phones, two wallets containing IDs and automated teller machine (ATM) cards, and the boodle money.

Investigation showed the group is operating in Metro Manila and Central Luzon where it sells M4 rifles at PHP160,000 each and shotguns at PHP40,000.

The suspects, now detained at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, will be charged with the violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
