PH-Korea cultural exchange festival goes online

THE PUBLIC  could once again have a glimpse of Filipino and Korean cultures with this year's Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival via an online concert on Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.

"It's been 30 years since the first Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival. We are going through a pandemic over the past years. However, I'm glad that we can still bring the festival and meet the people through online events like this," Korean Cultural Center (KCC) Director Im Young A told the Philippine News Agency in an email Tuesday.

Im said she hopes this year's fest could present a "hopeful memory", thus the theme: "We Stand Together".

The online concert is organized by KCC, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and the United Korean Community Association (UKCA). It can be viewed on KCC, NCCA and UKCA social media platforms.

The event, which serves as an avenue for Koreans and Filipinos to showcase talents and culture, gathered over 2,000 people at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City in 2019.

As of Tuesday, KCC is yet to provide a lineup of performers. However, it has announced that an online talent competition will also be part of the festival.

Entries for Voice and Dance categories may be submitted until Sept. 11. Solo/group Filipino participants may join by performing a Korean song, while Korean participants (solo/group) may showcase their talents in singing a Filipino song.

Solo/group Filipino and Korean participants may perform any Korean pop, traditional and cultural song for the Dance category.

The voting period will be from Sept. 13 to 17. The grand winner will receive PHP50,000 while category winners will get PHP30,000 each.

Meanwhile, KCC has also lined up other online activities this September.

These include an online talk about Korean beauty. Experts will share how to keep the skin "chok chok" or moist with a luminous complexion. More details may be announced via the KCC's social media platforms. (Ma. Cristina Arayata)
