ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police are hunting two alleged drug suspects who escaped during a sting operation that captured their cohort in the southern Philippine province of Sulu.
Undercover cops and members of
the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have arrested the 25-year old Yahiya
Wadjah Jadjuri in Indanan town, but two of his cohorts Nurdalyn Sang and Tua
Putol managed to flee.
Police seized two kilos of suspected
crystal meth worth P13. 6 million from Jadjuri. This was also confirmed by the
regional police on Thursday, saying the arrest of the suspect was the result of
the “series of intelligence operations.”
“The Police Regional Office of the
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) is sustaining its gains in its campaign
against illegal drugs. With the more aggressive operation, PRO-BAR has yielded
positive results and will continue to do so until this menace is completely
eradicated in the region,” it said.
The statement did not say that
two men had escaped the sting operation, however, National Police Chief General
Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar confirmed that Sang and Putol had escaped arrest and he
ordered police forces in Sulu to capture the pair.
Eleazar also ordered a “follow-up investigation” to know more about Jadjuri’s drug operations. “I tasked the local police to conduct manhunt operation to arrest Jadjuri’s accomplices. Kailangan ding maimbestigahang mabuti kung gaano kalawak ang operasyon ni Jadjuri at kung sino ang nagsu-supply sa kanya ng ilegal na droga. Umaapela rin ako sa publiko na kung may impormasyon kayo tungkol dito, ipagbigay-alam niyo lamang sa mga awtoridad upang mahuli agad natin ang mga nakatakas na suspek,” he said.
He said the successful operation in Sulu proved once again the importance of coordination and interoperability among law enforcement agencies, especially in the campaign against illegal drugs. (Mindanao Examiner)
