BOC seizes illegal cosmetics, supplements in Valenzuela

AUTHORITIES HAVE  seized imported cosmetic products and food supplements in a recent raid at a warehouse in Valenzuela City, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Tuesday.

In a statement, the BOC said personnel from the Manila International Container Port (MICP), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) raided a warehouse located at the corner of Malakas and Santiago Streets on October 1.

During the operation, Customs personnel presented and explained the letter of authority issued by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero to the representative of the warehouse, who was not identified.

Upon inspection, they found imported cosmetic products, vitamins, and supplements that do not have permits from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The BOC has yet to determine the total market value of the seized products.

BOC Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Raniel Ramiro said the goods will be subjected to further inspection and have been hauled to the BOC premises. It will be recommended for the issuance of a warrant of seizure and detention.

The seized items will also be subjected to seizure and forfeiture proceedings under Section 1113 for violation of Section 117 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. (Ferdinand Patinio)
