OPINION: Sunday Reflection by Mayor Beng Climaco

DO I cheat? Do I lie? Do I steal? - At the expense of people’s sufferings? Cut it off! The Gospel today is Jesus’ call to each one of us. Father Joel Malcampo was very emphatic in his homily of removing all that prevents us from following Jesus.

Father Arnel Aquino, on the other hand, hits the nail on the head. The call of renouncing all that is sinful in following our Lord. He addressed us in positions NOT TO PROFIT AT OTHERS EXPENSE. We must cut all that is sinful, purify our lives otherwise HELL awaits life eternal. Father Arnel offers a solution, an aid, and helps us begin anew by abandoning our sinful ways. He calls for a renunciation and return of all that is not ours to be able to have a renewed life.

I have learned that radical following of Jesus, means letting go of all that gets in the way. Why? Because Jesus loved us radically, immensely to death on the cross. Today's reflection is an examination of our conscience and an opportunity for renewal in this time of the pandemic.

In the book Sacred Space: Today’s reflection reads: “YOU CALL ME TO BE A STEPPING STONE AND NOT A STUMBLING BLOCK.” Indeed it is difficult to follow our Lord, but His Mercy and Love make the load easy. Renew us Lord as we renounce all that blocks our way to YOU! (MBC)
