POLICE ARE looking into personal grudge as the motive behind the killing of a village treasurer on Thursday morning.
Jose Servano Jr., of Barangay Del Pilar in Hamtic town, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of the Antique's old capital in this town's business district.
“Based on our investigation, Servano had no involvement on illegal drugs or any other illegal activities that could have caused his (killing),” said municipal police chief, Maj. Benjo Clarite, in an interview Friday.
He added that the victim and his village chief, Adrian Macuja, were walking on their way to a bank when the motorcycle-riding suspects passed by and shot the barangay treasurer.
Servano was immediately brought to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) here but was declared dead on arrival (DOA) due to a gunshot wound on his chest.
“We are still in the process of identifying the riding in tandem suspects,” Clarite said.
He added that they will request assistance from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 Cybercrime Unit because the suspects could not be identified even if they were captured in a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage since they are wearing face masks.
“The footage may be able to give us a lead in our investigation,” he said.
Clarite also assured residents of the capital town that they are doing their best to keep the municipality peaceful and orderly despite the incident. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay)
