Twister destroys houses, rips out trees in Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A tornado ravaged a small village in the southern Philippine pro city of Zamboanga, ripping out trees and destroying at least two dozen wooden houses, local government officials reported Monday.

Elmeir Apolinario, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said there were no reports of casualties from Sunday afternoon’s incident. He also released photos of the destruction left by the twister in Talon-Talon village. 

He said Mayor Beng Climaco ordered social workers to provide food to the affected villagers and to assess the damage to properties so the local government may quickly release financial assistance to the residents. 

Heavy rains the past days also flooded many areas here and caused massive power outages here. (Mindanao Examiner)
