Just recently, nearly 3,500 senior citizens and 950 tricycle drivers received their financial aid from Mayor Beng Climaco. The beneficiaries of the program helped senior citizens who are octogenarians (80-89 years old) and nonagenarians (90 to 99 years old) from various barangays.
Climaco was assisted by
social workers and Councilor Pinpin Pareja in the distribution of the cash aid
which was facilitated and supported by the City Social Welfare Office and the
City Treasurer’s Office.
Those who received cash
assistance were residents of Barangays Ayala, Baluno, Cawit, Labuan, La Paz,
Limpapa, Maasin, Pamucutan, Patalon, Recodo, Sinubong, Sinunuc, Talisayan and
Tulungatung.
The mayor said the amelioration program covers those who are not recipients of any government pensions. On the other hand, the octogenarians and nonagenarians received their cash incentives mandated under a local ordinance which form part of the city government’s counterpart to the national incentives given through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
She said the cash aid is the local government’s recovery and rehabilitation program for all sectors affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands of local residents have already received their share of the local amelioration program.
Zamboangueños praised Climaco, who is now on her third and
last term, for her welfare programs. Climaco is also running for Congress in
next year’s polls. (Zamboanga Post)
