Pakistan's most modern frigate in PH for goodwill visit

THE PAKISTAN  Navy’s largest and most modern frigate, the PNS Tughril (F-261), has arrived in Manila for a two-day goodwill visit.

In a statement on Tuesday, Philippine Navy spokesperson, Commander Benjo Negranza, said the PNS Tughril arrived at Pier 15 at the Manila South Harbor on Monday afternoon for a goodwill visit until Wednesday.

"A simple welcome ceremony was accorded by a Philippine Navy delegation headed by Capt. Emilio Orio Jr., the Deputy Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Plans. Also present was Dr. Imtiaz Kazi, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Philippines," he added.

The PNS Tughril is the first of four Type 054A frigates ordered by the Pakistan Navy from the China State Shipbuilding Corp. Ltd. It was commissioned last November 8.

Negranza said the visit of PNS Tughril would be concluded with a send-off ceremony with customary passing exercises.

No other physical interactions with their Filipino counterparts are scheduled in light of the existing safety biohazard protocols.

"This goodwill visit underscores the sustainment of naval diplomacy and maritime cooperation toward peace and stability. It further speaks well for the role that both navies play in the development and enhancement of the relationship between the two countries," he added. (Priam Nepomuceno)
