ZAMBOANGA CITY – A police commando and a criminal suspect were killed in a gunfight Tuesday that left three other people wounded in Lamitan City in the southern Muslim province of Basilan, reports said.
It said members of the Special Action Force came under fire while about to serve the arrest warrant for the suspect in the village of Baas. But the man opened fire with an automatic weapon as commandos were approaching the suspect’s hideout, sparking a gunfight that killed the commando and the attacker.
One commando was wounded in the fighting that also injured a 15-year old boy who was caught in the crossfire, according to reports.
It was unclear whether the suspect
acted alone or with accomplices. Police have not released any statement on the
fighting, but a photo posted on Facebook showed a civilian car used by the
police peppered with bullets. (Mindanao Examiner)
