THE IMPLEMENTATION of the "no vaccination, no ride" policy was well-received by air passengers, an official of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on Tuesday.
"Maganda naman po ang naging pagtanggap ng ating mga mananakay sa unang araw ng implementasyon ng 'no vaccination, no ride policy' sa ating paliparan. Naging maganda po iyong ginawa natin over the weekend na nagkaroon tayo ng soft implementation, nagkaroon na po tayo ng malawakang information drive kaya hindi na rin po nagulat ang ating mananakay kaya po nagkaroon ng magandang implementasyon (Passengers well-received the first day of implementation of the 'no vaccination, no ride' policy at the airports. He added that only a few were barred from their flights on Tuesday.
Authorities are implementing a two-pronged strategy in implementing the policy.
First, security personnel at the airports check proof that the individuals are fully vaccinated, or proof that they are exempted from the rule. Exemptions apply to persons with medical conditions that prevent them from getting inoculated against Covid-19, and to those traveling for essential purposes.
The second measure is that airlines need to verify the proof presented before giving them a boarding pass.
Lucas also clarified that partially vaccinated individuals, even if they show a schedule for their second dose, will still not be allowed to fly.
However, returning residents or those traveling for essential purposes are exempted, he said.
He added that showing a negative RT-PCR or antigen test results will not exempt them from the rule, noting that these documents are only needed if required by local government units.
Meanwhile, Lucas said the "no vaccination, no ride" policy will be implemented while the Alert Level 3 or higher is in effect.
"This is temporary and if the alert level gets downgraded to Level 2, this will be assessed," he said. ( Ma. Cristina Arayata)
