Zambo fire displaces dozens of people

A FIRE broke out Monday at a neighborhood in Zamboanga City and razed at least 20 houses, officials said, adding, there were no reports of casualties.

The fire at Falcatan Drive in the village of Tetuan displaced dozens of people, at least 92, according to social workers who quickly aided the victims upon the order of Mayor Beng Climaco.

The mayor rushed to the area and met with the fire victims and oversaw the distribution of aid at the covered court of the Zamboanga City High School now being used as temporary shelter.

Initial government reports blamed an overheated cell phone charger which burst into flame as the cause of the fire.

Podcaster Radyo Mindanao reported live at the scene and videos of the chaotic drama as neighbors tried in vain to fight the fire while women were seen crying as they fled from the inferno. The dramatic footage was uploaded on Radyo Mindanao’s Facebook page and can be accessed on this link: https://fb.watch/arWLtSyEPV/
