CEBU CITY – Mayor Michael Rama said he will meet with telecom executives to discuss the poor internet services here following mounting complaints from subscribers and business groups, among others.
Rama said he wants to get the commitment of the telecom companies
Globe and Smart PLDT to improve their services and restore connectivity in the
villages. “I will be fair enough after my talk with them. I want to see the
data (of telco reconnections) in the 80 barangays,” he said.
He cited the widespread complaints from different sectors
regarding the slow restoration of internet connection since the onslaught of
Typhoon Odette in December.
In a previous meeting with representatives from Globe Telecom and
Smart-PLDT, the companies committed to restore interconnectivity by the end of
January. However, the mayor noticed that many barangay remain without an internet
connection. The same problem was also rampant in other towns. (John Rey
