PAGADIAN CITY – A policewoman was killed and four others were wounded when their patrol truck crashed into a roadside tree after its driver lost control of the wheel while travelling in Zamboanga del Norte’s Tampilisan town.
Major Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokesperson, said the tragedy occurred Thursday afternoon in the village of Santo NiƱo. She said the victims are all members of the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial 2nd Mobile Force Company.
She identified the lone fatality as Patrolwoman Florilyn
Balansag, 29; and the wounded were Staff Sergeant Eric Panangitan, 37; Patrolman
Ray Francisco, 30; and Patrolwomen Princess Ann Adaza, 25; and Cherrie Ann Armoganda,
29.
“All the passengers and driver suffered injuries in different
parts of their body and were immediately brought to Liloy Integrated Health District
Hospital in Zamboanga Del Norte,” Chang said.
The police were heading to Dipolog City from here when the
accident occurred. Francisco was driving the truck, according to Chang. “The
driver lost control (of the vehicle and) swerved to the right side and crashed onto
a Mahogany tree,” she said.
Police were investigating the accident. (Mindanao Examiner)
