Village councilman killed (Warning: Contains graphic photo)

PAGADIAN CITY - Two motorcycle gunmen barged into a village hall in Zamboanga Sibugay province and shot dead a council member in a daring broad daylight attack in Diplahan town.

Photos posted by James Halup Castillano show the 67-year old victim, Cristituto Halup, after the daring attack at the Guinoman barangay hall in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Police confirmed the attack, saying the gunmen shot Cristituto Halup several times in the body and escaped after the shooting. The attack on the village hall of Guinoman occurred before noon Thursday, said Mah. Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokeswoman.

“The gunmen went inside the barangay hall and shot the victim several times using a .45-caliber pistol hitting his chest and abdomen and after the incident, the unidentified suspects fled,” Chang said.

The motive of the attack is still unknown, but police were investigating the shooting and hunting the gunmen.

Halup’s family said the 67-year old victim was shot seven times. James Halup Castillano also posted a photo on his Facebook page showing five people aiding the victim, and another photo of the councilman’s body in the morgue.

The photos were accompanied with this: “I can hear your voice saying…Uli na Be kay mo gakos ko nimo… the solemn peace had made me shed a tear. The whisper of your voice made me remember you. You have gone too soon and we could not accept it because you died in this way and no one even knows the reason. Whoever did this to you, we hope you still have a conscience inside you. You have killed an innocent and good man. We know justice will be served, justice will prevail.”

It was followed by hashtags #7 bullets, #We love you Papa #We will miss you forever #Peaceful election and #Justice.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing and police would not say if it was politically motivated or not. (Mindanao Examiner)
