SULU – Governor Sakur Tan has asked the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education to put up an exclusive school for technical and vocational training here after meeting with regional education officials.
Tan said he would provide one hectare for the establishment of the technical and vocational training center jointly managed by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Provincial Livelihood Training and Productivity Center.
“Providing quality technical and vocational training for our people is of utmost importance, and must be prioritized, so that we will be able to produce more technically competitive and highly Skilled Tausug,” Tan told officials from the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education headed by Lino Alpha, and Ghefarri Allama, of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Allama has informed the governor about the next phase of the Bangsamoro Scholarship Program and the Balik-Barangay Scholarship Program which will benefit 10 villages in Patikul town.
He said some P33 million has been allocated by the regional government for the program, adding the skills training for the beneficiaries is free and that training allowance will also be provided to the participants of both programs.
Tan has been strongly pushing for free education in Sulu, one of the five provinces under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao; and has built numerous school rooms and provided tens of millions in funds for educational purposes. (Mindanao Examiner)
