THE BUREAU of Customs (BOC) on Thursday reported the destruction of various abandoned and forfeited goods worth around PHP4.6 million.
In a statement, Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) District Collector Carmelita Talusan said the condemnation process of these goods was conducted on June 6.
The goods consist of various expired and unregistered food items, used UV lamps, prohibited Chinese medicines, and 60 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes.
She said all the goods underwent condemnation through pyrolysis under the supervision of BOC-NAIA’s Auction and Cargo Disposal Division.
Talusan also stressed the importance of preventing the entry of prohibited goods, especially medicines and food products that were illegally imported without the necessary permits.
She highlighted the importance of ensuring ease of doing business and expeditious release of goods.
The activity was also part of BOC-NAIA’s effort to ensure that the Port of NAIA’s warehouses and facilities can accommodate all incoming imports. (Ferdinand Patinio)
