PNP working on illegal drugs campaign database

A PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) official said Wednesday it is working on setting up an "accurate and accessible" database system for the campaign against illegal drugs.

PNP director for operations Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon said through the PNP Information Technology Management Service, the Drug-Related Data Integration and Generation System (DRDIGS) would serve as a digital library of all the data, intelligence reports, and other information on the campaign.

"Numbers and figures help us see an honest evaluation of our progress. In addition, I would like to emphasize that our strategy and field operations should be based on intelligence-driven data. There is no room for speculation when real lives are at stake," de Leon said in a statement. "It is essential for us to have operational data in order to have an accurate picture of the situation."

Citing the importance of the database on illegal drugs, he said the PNP storage of operational data is one of the most significant issues and gaps identified during periodic reviews of the campaign.

De Leon said the system, once operational, would effectively manage data, as well as provide quick and real-time reports and statistics. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
