ZAMBOANGA CITY – The chief of the National Bureau of Investigation in Zamboanga Sibugay was killed after shooting himself in the chest.
Police said Akmat Sampang was dead when his body was found by his partner on the night of July 23 inside their house in Ipil town. Police said Sampang, who was allegedly cleaning his pistol, told the woman, whose name was not made public, to buy a coconut juice.
The woman told police investigators that she saw the 59-year old Sampang sprawled on the floor, his chest bloodied and sought help from neighbors to bring him to the hospital.
“Upon returning home, she was
surprised when the victim was already lying with blood from a gunshot wound in
his chest while his issued firearm was beside him. The live in partner of
the victim immediately asked assistance from the neighboring residents
and hired a tricycle and immediately rushed the victim to Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital but unfortunately the victim was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Alrasid Sauti attending physician,” said Maj. Shellamie Chang, a regional police spokeswoman.
It was unclear whether Sampang committed suicide or not. No other details were made available by the police. (Mindanao Examiner)
