PRESIDENT BONGBONG Marcos has tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 respiratory disease and is now under isolation, Press Secretary Trixie Angeles announced Friday.
Angeles said the President
has a fever and that those who have been in close contact with Marcos were
informed on the situation. She said the President’s son, Rep. Sandro Marcos, has
tested negative for the virus and that the First Lady, Liza Marcos, and their
sons Simon and Vinny are all out of town and have not been exposed.
“The President has tested
positive in an antigen test for Covid-19. He has a slight fever but is
otherwise ok. Those who have been in close contact with him are currently being
informed by the Presidential Management Staff to observe their symptoms,” she
said.
No other details were made
available by the Angeles, however she said Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez
attended a security briefing on his behalf.
Due to his health condition, Marcos
did not attend the 246th anniversary of U.S. Independence at the American Embassy,
but Angeles said the President will virtually attend and give a message at the
Leagues of Governors and Mayors meeting later today.
She said the meeting was originally planned to have a dinner, but that meal has been removed to prevent officials from removing their masks.
“This (meeting) is part of the continuing
campaign for series of vaccinations and two booster shots in preparation for
the face to face opening of classes this school year,” Angeles said, adding the
Vice President Sara Duterte, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and Health
Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergiere will be making presentations during the
meeting.
“The President encourages the public to get their vaccine series and boosters,” she said. (Mindanao Examiner)
