It said 14 people, including six children, were safely recovered over the weekend following a joint rescue operation with the 41st Infantry Battalion.

An SOS call was sent out by one of the passengers, 35-year old Haber Munap, which prompted the Army and Coast Guard to mount the operation and save the passengers who were found floating around their boat.

The boat originated from Tapul Island and was heading to Maimbung when it was battered by huge waves and strong winds and capsized eventually. All the passengers were quickly brought to the hospital for medical examination after being at sea for hours and exposed to the freezing water.

Mayor Shihla Hayudini has ordered the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and Regional Health Unit to provide all the necessary assistance to the rescued passengers. (Mindanao Examiner)
