ZAMBOANGA CITY – Motorcycle gunmen opened fire on a woman and her one-year old daughter in an attack Monday in Lamitan City in the restive Muslim province of Basilan in southern Philippines.
Both victims were wounded in the shooting which occurred in the village of Parangbasak and had to be rushed to hospital.
Police identified the 25-year old mother as Sara Bonifacio and daughter Fajila. The woman and her child were seated outside a convenience store with husband Hamud when the drive-by shooting occurred. The assailants escaped after the attack.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack which police suspect was connected to a family feud or rido.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in
Basilan, one of five provinces under the Bangsamoro autonomous region, where
