COTABATO CITY - As part of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority’s mandate to enact priority legislation, the Committee on Local Government held a public consultation on the proposed Bangsamoro Local Governance Code in Cotabato City.
Deputy Speaker Atty. Omar Sema, who
facilitated the consultation, emphasized that the BLGC is one of the priority
codes that needs to be accomplished during the transition period. Salient
provisions of the code were explained by OIC Director Muhammad Farzieh Abutazil
of the Ministry of Interior and Local Government-Cotabato City.
He said that the BLGC's main guiding principle is to strengthen the power of supervision of the Bangsamoro government through the MILG and to exercise its regulatory power only when necessary and as applicable.
The public consultation aims to give city local government officials, Barangay Chairpersons, members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, academe, civil society groups, non-government organizations, religious, youth, women's sectors, and other non-state entities an avenue to share legislative inputs, comments, and recommendations on the proposed legislation.
