ZAMBOANGA CITY – Security forces killed a man wanted for various criminal cases following a gun fight early Thursday in Zamboanga Sibugay’s Roseller Lim town, a police spokesperson said.
Maj. Shellamie Chang said policemen backed by soldiers were trying to arrest Rasol Motabil Canda in his hideout in Tupilac village when he opened fire on security forces.
Canda, a resident of Ipil town in the province, was eventually killed during the righting, according to Chang. “The operation resulted in the neutralization of Rasol Motabil Canda, legal age, single and a resident of Tenan village in Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay,” she said.
Chang said security forces were serving two arrest warrants signed July 23, 2019 by Judge Anthony DT Isaw, of Branch 24 of the Regional Trial Court 9th Judicial Region; and Judge Vicente dela Plaza II, of Branch 36, signed on May 24, 2021.
She said Canda was facing murder, rape and homicide charges. She did not say how the police tracked down Canda, but security forces recovered a handgun and a fragmentation grenade from the slain suspect.
“The suspect was armed with a .38-caliber revolver and a hand grenade, resisted arrest and fired upon the operating team which triggered the fighting. The suspect was immediately brought to R.T. Lim Family Hospital for medical attention, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician,” Chang said. (Mindanao Examiner)
