7 Sayyafs terrorists yield in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Seven Abu Sayyaf terrorists have surrendered to the military in the southern Philippine province of Sulu with officials saying that since January 174 members of the notorious Muslim extremist group had returned to the fold of the law.

“The surrender of the former violent extremists was made possible through the intensified intelligence operations of the different intelligence units and the lethal and non-lethal operations of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade under Brig. Gen. Giovanni Franza,” said Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the Joint Task Force Sulu.

He said the terrorists also yielded six rifles and a revolver when they surrendered in the town of Luuk.

“The former Abu Sayyaf members revealed that due to their group’s weakened manpower and capability, they just have to run and hide from the government forces. They grew tired, thus, they surrendered,” said Patrimonio.

No other details were made available by the military on the background of those who surrendered or the atrocities they committed. The military also released photos of the surrenderers but all their eyes were redacted from the pictures. (Mindanao Examiner)
