Troops seize MILF weapons from 6 men, then free all them

COTABATO CITY – Government troops seized automatic weapons from a village chieftain and five members of the former rebel group Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at a military checkpoint in southern Philippines, but freed all the men without charges.

The men were in a pickup truck when soldiers from the 90th Infantry Battalion stopped them in the village of Inug-ug in North Cotabato’s Pikit town. Soldiers seized six high-powered firearms and other war materials from the group, among them was village chieftain Razul Akmad of Balabak.

Military photos show the seized MILF weapons and ammunition.

The other men introduced themselves as members of the MILF’s Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces’ 129th Base Command. They all failed to present gun permits and other necessary documents, according to the military.

Seized from the group were M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one M653 rifle, ammunition and dozens of magazines, including a set of Philippine Army Pattern uniform. It was unknown why soldiers released the men without charges despite the seizure of illegal weapons. (Mindanao Examiner)
