It said the M/Y Dream Keeper went down off Tubbataha Reefs, a day after the yacht arrived at the world-renowned scuba diving site.
“The dive yacht departed from San Remegio, Cebu, on 27 April 2023 (4 p.m.) and arrived at Tubbataha Reefs at around 10 p.m. 29 April 2023,” the Coast Guard said, adding, it immediately dispatched BRP Melchora Aquino to conduct search and rescue operations.
“The Coast Guard Sub-Station Tubbataha also augments the SAR operations and other dive boats in the area. As of this report, the joint SAR team from different agencies, units, and organizations has rescued 28 people, while four remain missing,” it added.
The yacht was carrying 15 crewmen, 12 passengers and five dive masters when it was hit by a squall that eventually sank the boat. The families of those rescued and missing have been contacted by the authorities but their identities were not made public, although there were reports that some of them were foreigners.
