CEBU - This year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo street dancing and grand ritual showdown will be held in Carcar City, according to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
In a meeting with heads of
different event committees, Garcia said she decided to move the venue of the
inter-LGU province-wide festival showcase to the new Carcar City Sports Center
due to renovation works currently being done in its usual venue at the Cebu
City Sports Center — formerly Abellana Sports Complex.
She said some 50 contingents from
Cebu’s component cities and municipalities have signed up for the street
dancing competition and the grand ritual showdown which will be held on August
27. The Carcar City Hall diversion road will be the venue for the street
dancing competition to ensure that vehicular traffic will be unhampered along
the Natalio Bacalso national highway.
According to Garcia, there will
be a few changes in this year’s Pasigarbo which are the following: the street
dancing competition will no longer allow costume changes, bulky props or set
props; and, will require that the routines must be different for street dancing
and ritual showdown.
The selection of festival queens
will now be integrated into the ritual showdown, where the ladies will be
graded during group and solo performances. Other important details such as
contingents’ billeting quarters, traffic routes, criteria and voting schemes,
among other preparations, will be released in the coming weeks.
Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is a highlight
event of the Capitol’s foundation anniversary month of August. This year, the
Province of Cebu celebrates its 454th founding anniversary. (Babie Jane Revecoy)
