ZAMBOANGA CITY - A fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga, one of biggest and most popular malls in Western Mindanao.
The fire at the branch of the fastfood chain Burger King sent black smoke billowing from the exhaust, sending people and vehicles rushing out of the mall.
Fire fighters rushed to the scene in an effort to control the blaze. The traffic outside the mall stalled, making it difficult for other fire trucks to enter the building and help put out the fire.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and mall executives have not released any statement. Witnesses said shoppers panicked upon seeing the smoke and ran toward the exit.
"People are in panicked, we ran as fast as we could and got out of the mall safely," said Jeng Fernandez, who was shopping with two other friends. "We are all safe, but it is scary experience," she said.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is expected to launch a probe into the fire. (Mindanao Examiner)
