COTABATO CITY - A resolution upholding the rights of persons with disabilities has been adopted by the Bangsamoro Parliament’s Women, Youth, Children, and Persons with Disabilities Committee.
The
CWYCP has called upon all ministries, agencies, offices, and local government
units within BARMM to comply with and implement the provisions of Republic Act
No. 7277, or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.
According
to the resolution’s principal author, Engr. Don Mustapha Loong, despite the
existence of RA No. 7277, PWDs have continued to experience discrimination,
social exclusion, and mistreatment.
Loong
stressed the necessity for the Bangsamoro Parliament to intensify its efforts
to safeguard the rights and privileges of PWDs.
The
Bangsamoro Youth Commission, Bangsamoro Women Commission, Ministry of Social
Services and Development, and Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical
Education shared their respective initiatives aimed at advocating for the
rights of women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities.
Meanwhile, as a newly constituted committee in Parliament, the CWCYP has announced plans to hold benchmarking activities in both the lower and upper chambers of Congress in September. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and Media Relations Division)
