COTABATO CITY - To improve the quality of veterinary programs and services in the region, several Bangsamoro lawmakers on Monday filed a bill that will allocate the necessary resources to “elevate veterinary services to a higher standard.”
The bill, authored by Dr. Hashemi Dilangalen, Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr., and Khalid Hadji Abdulah, acknowledges the role of animal health in public health, food safety, and community welfare.The proposed legislation aims to improve the quality and accessibility of veterinary programs throughout the BARMM, tailored to the unique cultural and geographical context that it necessitates to address animal health and welfare, zoonotic disease prevention, and livestock management.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform’s veterinary offices in the region will receive additional support to expand their programs and services.
The funds will be utilized to augment various aspects of veterinary services, including increased staffing, continuous training and capacity building, vaccination and disease control, animal welfare initiatives, mobile veterinary clinics, livestock health monitoring, and public education.
Once approved, the MAFAR will submit an annual report to the Parliament, detailing the utilization of funds, accomplishments, and challenges faced in the implementation of the programs and services.
According to the authors, the measure shows the BTA’s commitment to safeguarding not only public health but also ensuring food safety standards.
“This act serves as a testament to our dedication to promoting the holistic welfare of animals and the very communities that rely on them for sustenance and companionship,” said MP Dr. Dilangalen.
