ZAMBOANGA CITY - A provincial board member was shot dead by a man who was also killed by the lawmaker's security men in the southern Philippine province of Basilan.
Lawmaker Nasser Asarul of the 2nd District was eating at a roadside cafe when he was attacked.
The police identified the gunman as 45-year old Basid Kari Karim. The motive of the attack is still unknown but police are investigating the incident.
Asarul was rushed to the Lamitan Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
No other details were made available by the police into the attack. (Mindanao Examiner)
