CEBU CITY – The business community in Cebu have expressed concerns over the soaring cost of power and availability of its supply which may hamper growth and development not only in the province but the region as well.
Charles Kenneth Co, president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (CCCI), said the concern on electricity is one of the five key issues
that they want to work out with the national government. He said the issues
should be addressed by government agencies.
“Cebu and Central Visayas still have a lot of opportunities
for foreign investments to engage in. It is crucial for the national government
to come in in terms of lowering the cost of fuel and power,” he said.
Co also raised the issues on the national government funding
for local and various infrastructure projects, water and mass transit,
e-visa/visa-free for the tourism sector, and the Metro Cebu Expressway
connecting Naga and Danao cities.
Just recently, the CCCI took a proactive
step towards fostering a business-friendly environment by organizing an
insightful seminar on the essential aspects of the Business One Stop Shop
(BOSS) and its electronic counterpart, e-Boss as a strategy to equip businesses
with the necessary knowledge for business permits renewals.
It said the collaboration between government agencies and the private sector is pivotal in creating a conducive business climate as they work hand in hand to streamline business processes.
The CCCI said it is optimistic that this synergy will contribute
to a thriving business hub in Cebu, making it a focal point for growth and
innovation in the country. Looking ahead, the CCCI said it has set sights on a
series of seminars which will empower businesses with the knowledge and tools
needed to navigate an ever-evolving business landscape. (Cebu Examiner)
