COTABATO CITY — To improve healthcare accessibility and modern medical facilities, several Bangsamoro solons filed BTA Bill No. 283 on Monday, proposing the establishment of an infirmary hospital in Basilan's Tipo-Tipo town.
Member of the Parliament Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, Jr., one of the principal authors of the proposed measure, emphasized the growing population and economic development in the municipality, stating that immediate medical facilities and hospital services are necessary to address the health needs of the people.
Currently, Tipo-tipo residents have to travel 22.2 kilometers to Lamitan District Hospital via Basilan Circumferential Road, the nearest existing hospital.
Sinolinding said that patients often endure long hours of travel to Lamitan or resort to sea travel to Zamboanga City for advanced medical treatments. Under BTA Bill No. 283, the Tipo-tipo Community Hospital would fall under the administrative supervision of the region's Health Ministry.
The ministry will be responsible for determining and approving the organizational structure for the hospital's management and operations. Funds for the hospital's maintenance and operation will be included in the BARMM’s General Appropriations Act.
The Tipo-tipo Community Hospital Act of 2024 was introduced by MPs Mosber Alaudin, Jr., Mohagher Iqbal, Amroussi Macatanong, Tarhata Maglangit, lawyers Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba, Lanang Ali, Jr., Mary Ann Arnado, and Engr. Aida Silongan,
MoH and the Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Management will craft the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) within 60 days after the proposed hospital bill takes effect.
