ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - Four fishermen were reported missing after their boat sank off Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao, the Philippine Coast Guard reported.

It said the fishing boat, RCT-999, was manned by 38 crew men when it went down in rough seas between Tumalutab Island in Zamboanga City and Payao in Zamboanga Sibugay province on Thursday.
“The vessel submerged and reports indicate that there were 38 individuals on board, with 4 still missing. Upon receiving the report of the Coast Guard Substation in Sangali (Zamboanga City) this district acted swiftly, dispatching DA BFAR MCS 3001 for search and rescue operations,” the Coast Guard said.
“The mission is clear: Locate and assist anyone in distress and prevent further incidents.
“Currently, the search and rescue efforts are ongoing in the hopes of finding the missing individuals. Additionally, this district is closely monitoring the area to address any potential traces of oil spills and advise the captain to file marine protests,” it added without providing further details of the incident and reports of casualties.
