4 soldiers killed in Ramadan ambush

COTABATO CITY - Four government soldiers were killed in an ambush Sunday in the restive Muslim province of Maguindanao del Sur in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the soldiers were in a vehicle returning to base when gunmen attacked them with automatic weapons in the village of Tuayan 1 in Datu Hoffer town.

The attack occured during the holy month of Ramadan.

Maj. Gen. Alex Rillera, commander of the 6th Infantry Division, condemned the killings and ordered security forces to hunt down the ambushers.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the ambush, but the province is a stronghold of the IS-Philippines of Dawlah Islamiya, blamed by authorities for the spate of deadly attacks on military and civilian targets in the South. (Mindanao Examiner)
