Newly opened Legazpi City College now TESDA-accredited

THE TECHNICAL Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has granted a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) program registration to the new Legazpi City College (LCC) that will provide opportunities to those students who want to enroll in the Agricultural Crop Production NC 11 course.

In an interview on Friday, Legazpi City Mayor Geraldine Rosal said interested students may now inquire with the LCC for the TESDA Agricultural Crop Production short course which is offered for free to the qualifiers.

The city college was formally opened to the public on Wednesday.

“Originally, this structure was for the extension building of Arimbay National High School but unfortunately, it didn’t work out because the face-to-face classes had been suspended due to the restrictions at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. We decided to use it for the operation of LCC to pave the way to enroll in the vocational courses offered by TESDA," Rosal said.

She said her administration is also awaiting the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the four-year Bachelor of Science in Agri-Business course which is expected to accommodate the first batch in August this year.

Rosal said Legazpi City will also construct additional classrooms to accommodate more students who could benefit from the tuition-free offerings.

She said the City Engineering Office (CEO) has started the clearing of lots for the construction of the LCC main campus.

Rosal said the city government has allocated PHP2 million as initial funding for a four-room school building at the four-hectare land area owned by the local government unit in Barangay Taysan.

“We will use this property for the benefit of our constituents and through this LCC, our students will minimize their traveling time and reduce transportation expenses," she added.

The LCC materialized through City Ordinance number 16-0009-2022 authored by Vice Mayor Robert Oscar “Bobby” Cristobal and enacted during the Sangguniang Panlungsod's 16th regular session on Nov. 22, 2022, and approved on Jan. 30, 2023. (Emmanuel Solis)
