COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Social Services and Development Committee has approved Parliament Bill No. 32, which aims to protect the rights of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region.
PB No. 32, or the Rights of Internally Displaced
Persons of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Act, received unanimous approval
after thorough deliberations by the CSSD members.
It seeks to protect Bangsamoro individuals displaced by armed conflicts, violence, clan disputes, and human-induced disasters.
Key provisions of the proposed measure include
ensuring access to basic necessities, healthcare, education, freedom of
movement, document recognition and replacement, and family reunification for
IDPs.
Deputy Floor Leader Atty. Raissa Jajurie, MSSD
minister, highlighted the urgent need for such legislation, citing BARMM's high
displacement rates.
CSSD Chair Engr. Aida Silongan said that the
committee will meet with the Committee on Finance, Budget, and Management
before finalizing its joint committee report. (LTAIS-Public Information,
