PNP strictly vetting 'tips' on Quiboloy's whereabouts

PIECES OF information on the wheareabouts of fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy will undergo strict verification, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.

This came after the Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 (Davao) confirmed receiving a lot of calls giving information on Quiboloy's location after a reward has been offered for his arrest, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

“Baka meron doon ay nililigaw naman yung ating focus kung saan yung sa tingin natin ay maaaring matagpuan itong mga wanted persons na ating hinahanap (It is likely that some would want to mislead our focus on where to find these wanted persons. This is not impossible)," she said.

She, however, assured that the police is sparing no effort in looking for Quiboloy.

“One of the challenges is we know that the subject of our warrant of arrest is a high profile individual. He has resources, he has supporters so we continue to appeal to Pastor Quiboloy and his five co-accused, spare your supporters, your relatives. Face the charges. On the part of the PNP, we are just implementing the law," she said in Filipino.

Earlier this week, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. announced that citizens have pooled a PHP10-million reward for information that can help in the arrest of Quiboloy.

Quiboloy’s five co-accused each have a PHP1 million bounty.

The Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader has standing arrest warrants for child and sexual abuse issued by the Davao City Regional Trial Court, and human trafficking issued by a Pasig City court, which are non-bailable cases.

Fajardo said the PNP is looking into increasing the bounty for anyone who can give information that will lead to Quiboloy's arrest. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
