Sun Life enhances financial literacy for Pinoys through gameplay

DAVAO CITY - It was a fun time with Sun Life when it brought its original board game, Play for Life: A Game of Choices, down south to Davao City. This game was designed to makes financial literacy within the grasp of everyday experience.

Michelle Villalonga, Sun Life Philippines Client Segment Marketing Specialist; and Eunice Aton, Sun Life Philippines Regional Sales Manager (Mindanao) hosted the Coffee & Play Event in Gaisano Mall, Davao.

The board game thrilled the attendees at the recent Coffee & Play event attended by Sun Life clients, held at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf branch at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Play for Life simulates real life as it involves Life Wins, Life Choices, and Life Happens situations. A player wins the game once they have accumulated enough play money to reach their set goal.

Play for Life: A Game of Choices is an original board game developed by Sun Life to foster financial literacy among Filipinos.

“The objective of this board game is to make financial literacy or financial planning friendly,”
said Michelle Villalonga, Client Segment Marketing Specialist of Sun Life Philippines. "Since we observed that financial concepts are not easily understood by most individuals, Play for Life Sun Life’s way of making financial literacy fun and engaging for more Filipinos."

Villalonga adds that this fun board game simulates real life financial experiences. Sometimes, life happens when we least expect it, so one has to be ready, she shares. “During the game, you realize how important it is to be financially prepared for when those scenarios happen.”

At Coffee & Play, Davaoeños were given the chance to try Play for Life: A Game of Choices and win exciting prizes from Sun Life.

At the Coffee & Play event, Sun Life financial advisors facilitate the game and help attendees process the post-game experience. Villalonga said, “After playing the game, our advisors sit down with the attendees to process the lessons they learned from the game, and they realize the importance of making bright financial choices."

Villalonga said that they are optimistic of the new and innovative way that Sun Life is imparting the benefits of financial literacy to more Filipinos. She adds that Sun Life plans to hold more Coffee & Play events across the country.

Sun Life remained the number one life insurance company in the Philippines based on total premium income, according to a report by the Insurance Commission of the Philippines. It posted total earned premiums amounting to ₱57.15 billion in 2025, to make a ₱9-billion distance to the nearest competitor.
