Tree crashes into house, kills woman in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A woman was pinned to death after a huge tree, uprooted by heavy rains and strong winds, crashed into their home early Wednesday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.
Jocelyn Sajili was killed on the spot by the weight of the heavy Balete tree and her husband, Nasser, was also severely injured and pinned under the debris in Sinunuc village.
The couple’s two children were injured and safely pulled out by rescuers under the house and rushed to hospital.
Heavy rains and gusting winds overnight, brought about by a typhoon, have flooded many areas in Zamboanga and caused rockslides in remote mountains villages. But rains since early this week have already affected over 12,200 people in 12 villages.
Classes in all levels remain suspended since October 16 because of the bad weather. (Mindanao Examiner)
