KIDAPAWAN CITY – Government soldiers foiled a roadside bombing in the southern Philippine province of Sultan Kudarat after civilians discovered an improvised explosive and quickly informed the military about the homemade bomb.
Members of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion defused the explosive which was left in downtown Esperanza early Friday morning. The bomb was inside a bag, according to Captain Arvin Encinas, a spokesman for the 6th Infantry Division.
“A concerned civilian relayed an information to the army that one unattended baggage was left behind by unidentified person along the national highway,” he said.
Encinas said the area was immediately cordoned by soldiers led by Lieutenant Anjelou Peralta and disarmed the bomb.
The army has blamed the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters for the foiled bombing, saying, the pro-ISIS militant group was behind the spate of attacks in in the province. (Mindanao Examiner)
