Troops, Sayyafs clash in South

SULU - Fresh fighting broke out Thursday between troops and Abu Sayyaf militants in the southern Philippine town of Patikul where security forces were sent to finish of the pro-ISIS group.

The clash occurred in Tanum village where the military reported to have killed 2 militants, but it did not say whether the bodies had been recovered or if the casualties were based on intelligence information.

There was no report of military casualties, but the operation against the notorious group is continuing after President Duterte ordered security forces to destroy the Abu Sayyaf, blamed for the spate of terrorism and ransom kidnappings in neighboring Sabah in Malaysia.

Abu Sayyaf leaders have pledged allegiance to ISIS and they vowed to wage holy war or jihad and establish a caliphate in the restive region where military forces are also battling communist insurgents. (Mindanao Examiner)
