No such things as ‘holy alcohol, masks’: Pampanga diocese

THE ARCHDIOCESE of Pampanga on Monday said there is no such thing as 'holy alcohol', which was purportedly made as substitute to holy water.

“There is no sacramental holy alcohol, that we should make the sign of the cross when we rub it to ourselves. Moreover, it should not be sprinkled on the faithful,” the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission of Pampanga said in a statement.
It also denied that the church has replaced holy water with holy alcohol.
“It is fake news that during this time of pandemic, coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the church has replaced holy water with holy alcohol even if it has been temporarily set aside as we enter the church to prevent contamination. Blessed water is the matter of baptism, using another material element or liquid makes such baptism invalid,” the commission added.
It said that there are no such things as 'holy face masks', 'holy face shield', 'holy sanitizer', 'holy personal protective equipment' or 'holy goggles'.
“This is an irreverent marketing strategy or gimmick,” the Pampanga archdiocese added.
Since March, many churches across the country have ordered emptying holy water fonts as part of precautionary measures against the coronavirus disease 2019. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
