NO FILIPINO has been diagnosed with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Vietnam, Charges d' Affaires to Hanoi Paul Vincent Uy confirmed on Friday.
"There are 4,991 Filipinos here in Vietnam and sa awa ng Diyos, walang Pilipino ang nahawa ng Covid-19 (There are 4,991 Filipinos here in Vietnam and with God's grace, none of the Filipinos here has contracted Covid-19)," Uy said in a Laging Handa briefing.
He said most Filipino workers there were able to return to work last April after the government allowed the resumption of restaurants and mall operations, as well as the reopening of other businesses.
Based on the latest data from the World Health Organization, Vietnam has 328 confirmed Covid-19 cases with zero deaths as of June 4.
Uy said Vietnam's response to control the spread of Covid-19 had been "effective" as stringent measures were imposed even before the pandemic was declared.
"As early as January 11, they already implemented measures to control the spread of the coronavirus and among this is the closure of land borders to China and neighboring countries," he said in Filipino.
Aside from the lockdown, Hanoi also implemented "rigid contact tracing" where information of all patients, including their movements, is disseminated to the public.
