People’s Light D&M (Development and Manufacturing) Inc. has announced the
introduction of the first smart solar street lights designed by German engineers and built in the
Philippines.
Hans Jongedijk, president of People’s Light D&M Inc., said the company spent
at least 3 years of intensive development and testing in producing the Ultra
Bright street light specifically designed for warm and humid climates such as
the Philippines.
He said the company is committed to provide the best lighting solution to
suit the hot Philippine climate by using modern techniques that ensure a long
life and the brightest street lights available in the market today.
“By implementing the results of comprehensive studies in battery and
light solutions, our products are unique in every aspect,” he said, adding, the
company’s
smart
solar street light has a built-in GSM (Global
System for Mobile communications), WiFi (Wireless Fidelity), and LoRa (Long Range Radio).
He said each smart solar street light has 22,000 light hours and a LiFePoR battery pack powering
162 high performance light emitting diodes and fully encased in aluminium. It
also has remote diagnostics and 3 years warranty and with upgrade to 6 years.
“After
3 years of intensive development and testing we are releasing our Ultra Bright
street light, the PL141-UB which is an all-in-one solution (solar, battery and
lights) is specially designed for warm and humid climates as we have here in
our country.”
“The 3-in-1
solution makes installation very easy and uncomplicated. In addition to our 12-hours
light function every night, we also added a LoRa network (wireless communication)
that is accessible by the local engineering team and our own back office. This
Globe-powered IOT (Internet of Things) Smart Street Light is guaranteed to work
for more than five years,” Jongedijk told the regional
newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
He said
the People’s Light D&M Inc. has used mainly local
suppliers for the raw materials and sub-assemblies in an effort to provide jobs
and at the same time contribute to the economy. “This ensures that when our
customers buy this Philippine product they contribute to our economy,” Jongedijk
said.
Jongedijk
urged the public and local governments, including the industrial sector, to help
support the local industry and buy the Philippine-made smart solar
street lights.

Light D&M smart solar street lights are Calco Industries
Bulacan (aluminum), Solar Philippines Batangas (solar panels, Kintar Mandaue (metal
works), PMI Lapu-Lapu (electronics assembly and testing), Sigma Mandaue (powder
coating), Machine Systems LLC (aluminum processing) and Abtech Lapu Lapu (iron
works).
